The Tisch Children's Zoo in Central Park is a place where very young children have their first encounter with animals. The naturalistic setting respects animals as well as the zoo's location in this landmark park. Quennell Rothschild & Partners, in close collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society, led a multi-disciplinary design team to transform the zoo from its previous derelict state.

Visitors reach the zoo through gates by sculptor Paul Manship, preserved from the 1960 zoo, up a ramp to a large aviary accessed through three fantastically-scaled "blasted oaks". Visitors inside this almost invisibly-netted area walk among birds flying freely. A series of streams and pools, constructed around existing trees and rock outcrops, is home to sacred ibis, wildfowl, turtles and fish. Outside of the aviary are sheep, goats, a Dexter cow and a pot-bellied pig. Throughout the zoo, there are interactive features such as turtle shells to climb in, rabbit ears to listen through, lily pads to jump on and a spider web to climb, which teach children about the animals while they play.
